Dunfanaghy is a small coastal village nestled at the base of the picturesque Horn Head peninsula, Muckish Mountain and the New lake. The workshouse project was initiaed in 1989 when th egroup wer incoprated as limited company with charitable status. The main thrust of the group involves the oprateion of the heritage centre with exhibitions on:

They also hope to bring visitors to the area in a bid to help the local economy, whilst simultaneously preserving a historic building. Finally the project intends to provide a market place for the talents of local people including the many craft producers in the area.

The project recives a large number of vistors each year, with last year recording a total 15,000 stepping across its threshold. They have to date had huge interest in their weekend and and week long courses. These courses cover such topics as; Traditional Crafts, Painting, Gardening, and Sculpture, and are all assisted by the local VEC.
